June Is The National Home Safety Month

Yes, The National Safety Council established June as National Safety Month in 1996 with the purpose to educate and influence people to prevent accidental injury and death.

Here at Az Cleaning Equipment we believe safety is very important and when you rent or buy equipment from us, we want you to feel confident that you know how to best use it. Here are some guidelines on pressure washer safety provided by the Department of Health and Human Resources.

Pressure Washer Safety

A pressure washer is a power tool that sprays water at high pressures to clean large, sturdy surfaces such as buildings, farm equipment and roads. Pressure washers may be used more often during disaster clean up when the risk of injury may be higher.

When using a pressure washer, always follow the safety instructions included in the owner’s manual.

Risks
  • The strong spray from a pressure washer can cause serious wounds that might first appear minor. Wounds that appear minor can cause a person to delay treatment, increasing risk for infection, disability or amputation.
  • The fast, strong spray can throw objects that strike and injure others who are close by.
  • Electric shock can occur if the pressure washer is not used properly and if safety instructions are not followed. ·
  • Using small, gasoline powered engines can cause carbon monoxide poisoning. Workers should not use any equipment powered by gasoline engines inside buildings or other partially enclosed spaces unless the gasoline engine can be placed outdoors and away from air intakes.
Precautions
  • Never point a pressure washer at yourself or others.
  • Never attempt to push or move objects with spray from the washer.
  • Never use a gasoline powered washer in an enclosed space.
  • Always test the ground fault circuit interrupter (circuit breaker or outlet) before using a pressure washer.
  • Always plug a properly grounded pressure washer into a properly grounded receptacle.
  • If an extension cord must be used, keep the pressure washer’s power cord connection out of any standing water, and use a heavy duty extension cord with components rated for use in wet locations. Keep both the power cord and extension cord connections as far away as possible from the item being washed and away from any water runoff.
  • Wear rubber soled shoes that provide some insulation when using the pressure washer.
  • Never cut or splice the pressure washer’s power cord or extension cords.
  • Never remove the grounding prong from the pressure washer’s power cord plug or the extension cord.
  • Always have a qualified electrician check the pressure washer for electrical problems after it has tripped a circuit breaker.
  • Never allow children to operate a pressure washer. Keep children at a safe distance when an adult is using a pressure washer.
If you are hurt by a pressure washer:
  • Call 911 if emergency help is needed.
  • Take care of any wounds:
  • Before treating the wound, wash your hands with soap and clean water.
  • Remove any object that is in the way of caring for the wound.
  • Put pressure on the wound with a clean cloth to stop bleeding.
  • After bleeding has stopped, pour bottled or clean running water over the wound.
  • Gently clean around the wound with soap and clean water.
  • Pat dry and use an adhesive bandage or dry clean cloth to cover the wound.
  • Leave unclean wounds open.

Persons who have high pressure spray wounds are urged to get medical attention as soon as possible. A medical professional might XRay the injured area, provide a tetanus shot and antibiotics, or make a referral to a specialist.

The Carwash Industry and Eco-Friendly Practices.

It’s not just water reclaim and biodegradable chemicals; the carwash industry is opening up to all kinds of eco-friendly business practices.

In her article, featured in Professional Car wash & Detailing Magazine, “What Can Green Do For You?” Kate Carr explains:

“There is a green solution for every operation; from small efforts like recycling programs or reducing paper waste, to bigger ideas like wind turbines and LEED certification. The trick is finding the match for your carwash and deciding how to present it to your customers. Not every market has a niche for green consumers, and choosing to broadcast your green business practices is at your discretion.

At a minimum, every operator should consider the cost savings and efficiencies that result from eco-friendly choices. After all, when you can’t raise the cost of a carwash or squeeze another car down the tunnel, that’s all you have left.”(Read Article Here)

Advice on Spring Cleaning Services

Residential cleaning services have been among the top 10 most searched-for services on consumer review site Angie’s List over the past 30 days. Even in the sluggish economy, residential cleaning services are a booming business, according to a January report from The Freedonia Group… Before hiring a company or individual for your annual scrub-down or recurring service, there are precautions to take. Make sure you and the service agree on the work to be done, how many people will be coming into your home — and how they are screened — and who will be responsible in case of mishaps.

Car Wash Installation

We recently installed a Hotsy car wash system for our friends at Enterprise Rent_A_CarⓇ at the Mesa Gateway Airport. We are really proud about this project since we know that the investment and planning will really pay off.

How indispensable is to have a  solid piece of equipment that will help you improve your business.

To have a car wash system on site, speeds up the process of maintaining your vehicles. At the same time, it gives you the possibility of monitoring and moderating  the amount of waste water that your franchise generates.

Cleaning your Roof with a Pressure Washer

The year is almost over and we need to begin to think about what we are going to improve in our lives. Many say New Year’s resolutions are overrated. But, the way I see it,  is if we don’t set our mind to do something at this point, then when will we do it? After all, we need to generate cash for the next holiday season- and everything in between now and then.

Once you get something done during the first season, you become motivated throughout the whole year.

so, I was also thinking: why not let that be a project that you enjoy, that you feel proud about? Something that takes energy and requires interaction.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

How about a trip to our store with your teenage son -or even daughter- and you and I talk about pressure washers and which one is best for your roof.

Here is an article that a good friend sent me. I hope it’s useful to you.

We put the best tools at your service.

Washing Your Roof With A Pressure Washer

by Scott Rodgers

A disorderly state of your roof not only hampers the normal
functioning of roofing setup but also hurts the serenity of
the entire home. When it is about beautifying your home, the
roofs deserve a quintessential attention.

When it comes to ensuring a serene look to your home, the
roofs often are neglected. Considering the fact that roofs
are exposed to dust, air and water on a constant basis,
their sanitation is not prioritized by the homeowners.
However, it is quite accepted that roofs are an integral
part of your home architecture.

front-21You can take one of the two ways to wash your roof entirely.
Either you can clean off the roof surface with a broom and a
bucket of water or you can pressure wash the roof. Pressure
washing the roof saves you a lot of time whereas the manual
wash does the job with no financial involvement. A washer
apparatus has to be bought from a hardware store to pressure
wash the roof. If you’re constrained by money then you can
rent the concerned equipment. Derive any possible
recommendation from the salesperson regarding the pressure
of the machine. Generally, a pressure of about 1500-2000
pounds per square is required for the operation.

Take a regular-sized hose pipe and connect its tail to a
source of water supply. Screw the other end to the pressure
washer you just brought in. Render normal supply to the
apparatus by turning on the water control valve of the
concerned source.

Insert the plug of the equipment into the associated socket
and trigger the operation of the apparatus. Switch on the
washer and wait for the water to gush out of the mouth of
the pipe.

Pull the trigger of the washer and direct the flow of water
to the roof. Remember that water gushes out of the washer
mouth with great pressure and hence, handle the mouth
strongly beforehand.

stage-washMake sure that the location on which you are standing on the
roof is not too steep or saturated. If the roof appears a
bit too steep then carry out the operation from the ladder.
Make sure that the ladder is grounded firmly and doesn’t
shake or wobble. Another person could be called in to assist
you with the assignment. Cover all the areas of the roof and
render a clean look to your roof.

Ultimately, a cleaner roof of the home adds to the
beautification of the entire home.

Make $450 or More Per Job – Start a Pressure Washing Business

ace-avatar2Did you know that running a full time power washing business, it is highly possible to make in excess of $100,000 per year? That’s just part of the good news. After doing some research, I found out that there are many great resources out there to get into the pressure washing industry. And start-up cost is relatively low compared to other small business! Interested? here’s one of the articles I found.

Make $450 or More Per Job – Start a Pressure Washing Business

Author: Louis Merz

home_06The Pressure washing business is a great opportunity for anyone that wants to make either a part or full time income. Here are 5 important reasons explaining why it’s profitable to start a pressure washing business.

You can make $450 dollars or more for simply pressure washing a home. On average it takes 4-6 hours of work to finish pressure washing a residential home around 2000 square feet. That comes to on average $75 dollars an hour just for doing residential work. The commercial work is even more lucrative. In rich neighborhoods it is often acceptable to charge higher prices per home.

There is low overhead when operating your own power washing business. The maintenance costs required for operating a pressure washer is typically low and insurance costs are not high when compared to other small businesses. Compared to owing a brick and mortar store, the pressure washing business costs and overhead doesn’t even compare. You don’t need to maintain a store or pay expensive monthly rental fees. The main monthly costs for a pressure washing business are insurance, marketing costs, and equipment maintenance.

The pressure washing business isn’t as competitive as many other small businesses. For example if you compare the pressure washing business with the landscaping business you will find far greater competition in the landscaping business. To verify this look in your newspaper for landscaping business ads and then check for pressure washing business ads. Chances are you will find less competition.pressure

The startup costs for a pressure washing business are lower than most other small businesses. You don’t need to invest $10,000 dollars to get started in the power washing business. A lower investment means less risk in case your business fails or the market isn’t as good as you expected. Many people fall into the trap of believing they need the best, most expensive equipment on the market in order to run a successful power washing business. The truth is you can run a successful business and be highly efficient by using average or used equipment provided the equipment operates properly.

The pressure washing business allows repeat business. Clients you do work for will often as you to come back in 3-6 months if you do a good job. Also there will always be work available. Mold, Algae, and dirt are never going away. There will always be another residential or commercial building that needs to be pressure washed regardless of your competition.

As drought creeps back, think conservation

ace-avatar2I want to share with you this article about the state of our drought this summer. It  written by Shaun McKinnon who covers water, climate and environmental issues for The Arizona Republic. This story was posted early this month in his blog, Watterblogged.

As drought creeps back, think conservation

With tropical moisture streaming up from the Gulf of California, drought may seem a bit off-topic, but Arizona has actually turned pretty dry over the past nine months to a year.drought_logo150dpi

In its latest drought update, the Arizona Department of Water Resources shows much of the state either abnormally dry or in moderate drought and, as of July, drought conditions have turned severe in a few regions.

The Bill Williams River watershed in west-central Arizona and the Agua Fria River watershed just north of metro Phoenix now carry “severe drought” status after months of below-normal moisture…(read More)
